I’m Montana Bound!
Words by Tom Hench
Music by Tom Hench and Suzy Hench Fabian
Born in the east but settled in the west
I’m Montana bound!
Found me a place that I liked best
I’m Montana bound!
Summer’s kinda short winter’s kinda long
I’m Montana bound!
Weather don’t matter - it’s where I belong
I’m Montana bound!
Raised my kids under the Big Sky
I’m Montana bound!
They grew up strong my gal and my guy
I’m Montana bound!
Me and my man like to travel around
I’m Montana bound!
Enjoyin’ all the beauty everywhere it’s found
I’m Montana bound!
No matter where I travel
From sea to shining sea
There’s just one place I wanna be
Montana is for me
However much I wander
Or wherever I may roam
There’s just one place I like the most
Montana is my home
Lookin’ out my window the Rockies on display
I’m Montana bound!
Put me down some roots so I think I’m gonna stay
I’m Montana bound!
Made a good life out here in the west
I’m Montana bound!
Can’t help thinkin’ I’ve really been blessed
I’m Montana bound!
No matter where I travel
From sea to shining sea
There’s just one place I wanna be
Montana is for me
However much I wander
Or wherever I may roam
There’s just one place I like the most
Montana is my home
Born in the east but settled in the west
I’m Montana bound!
Found me a place that I liked best
I’m Montana bound!

Verse 1:
Got your little letter
I hope you’re feeling better
You thought you had the right to criticize
You found someone to blame
And so you took your aim
And landed all those daggers there right between my eyes
Chorus:
That’s it! I’m done!
Won’t be hangin’ ‘round here anymore
Goodbye, So long
Don’t come by knockin’ on my door
Verse 2:
When times got tough
I didn’t do enough
In a game that I knew I'd always lose
I could not compare
With what you think is fair
So you said “Times up, you gotta choose”
Chorus:
Verse 3:
So good luck to you
In what you wanna do
I hope a better person can be found
But it ain’t me
And it will never be
I’m leavin’, ain’t gonna stick around
Chorus:

An old man told a story
That his father John had told
About a battle in the Civil War
When John was 9 years old
It happened near to where he lived
With his immigrant family
In Hanover, Pennsylvania
On June 30 of ‘63
Gen’l Lee had crossed the Mason-Dixon line
Heading north just days before
With a plan to push far to the east
And quickly end the war
JEB Stuart also headed north
To add his cavalry’s might
And he chose a path through Hanover
On his way to join the fight
But Union General Kilpatrick
Sent troops earlier that day
To guard the roads to Hanover
And block the Rebels’ way
At mid-morning where the Littlestown
And Westminster roads become one
Shots were fired but a half a mile
From the site of young John’s home
Now when his family heard these shots
Their thoughts were filled with dread
And they sought their only shelter
To the cellar they all fled
And as they huddled quietly
Their presence not to belie
John looked out a small window
And saw soldiers riding by
Now by afternoon the artillery
From each side joined in the fray
In the cellar John heard every shot
Fired in Hanover that day
From a cemetery in the south
To the high ground in the north
Came the sound of a constant cannonade
As they volleyed back and forth
But when General Custer’s cavalry
Gained the rebels’ flank
The fighting stopped and John at last
Left that cellar dark and dank
But at that time he could know
Nor could he then foresee
The fighting he had heard that day
Helped change our history
With the Rebels delayed at Hanover
And the precious time it cost
When Stuart at last met up with Lee
Gettysburg was all but lost
And on that second of July
‘Twas young John’s 10th birthday
He might have heard that battle rage
Just 13 miles away
When John grew up and married
And had a family
He told his son what he had seen
On that day in ‘63
His son then told his grandson
So I would always know
What my great-grandfather had witnessed
On that day many years ago
What my great-grandfather had witnessed
On that day many years ago
