Beneath an ancient gravestone
On a moor so cold and gray
Lies the body of a man
A minstrel they did say
And carved upon that weathered stone
These few words still remain
“Here rests the Lonely Troubadour
He knew not wealth nor fame”
Tho’ many thought it special
When a new song came along
Most had never made the time
To listen to his songs
He often sang to passersby
Who happened to come near
But in the end he sang unheard
For no one stopped to hear
Most of his life he spent alone
His many songs unsung
Playing concerts in his mind
Since he was very young
Sadly, few folks ever knew
The stories that he told
The lessons that they taught
His wisdom to behold
When he died he left behind
A life of songs unsaved
And every message that they held
Went with him to his grave
But he had one dying wish
’fore he slept beneath the moor
“Please, sing to me one of my songs”
Said the lonely troubadour
